PAINTING/ PRINTMAKING

During the later Lustre Pottery years Danka resumed printmaking, producing several Limited Editions for Chelsea Art Works and Christies Contemporary Art. In 1993 for her exhibition at Gallery Tresco she radically changed her way of working and started using soft pastels to create individual pictures. The qualities of this medium: vibrancy of colour, delicate surface and blended tones enabled her to develop the strong palette for which she has become known and is so characteristic of recent work.
Danka is membership secretary for the Cornwall Ceramics and Glass Group and a member of FSB.

Since moving to Cornwall in 1982, Danka has worked principally with tiles. At first many kitchens and bathrooms, but latterly designing and producing panels and murals for the public and commercial sectors.

LUSTRE POTTERY 1970-1982

Established and ran Lustre Pottery, North Yorkshire with Roger Michell. Fine thrown and turned, highly decorated white-earthenware was made in the studio pottery. Later a casting unit was established to make small runs of modelled/decorated pieces, many of them teapots. Danka was responsible for the decorating and glazing. In 1974 designed the Walking Teaset which was subsequently manufactured by Carltonware, Stoke-on-Trent. This was the first of many designs produced for them over a seven year period.
Lustre Pottery featured in many articles and publications including ‘Potters on Pottery’ by Elizabeth Cameron and Philippa Lewis. ‘The British Teapot’ by Tim and Janet Street-Porter.
